April Fools' Day has an interesting history. It's believed to have originated when the calendar changed from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar in the 16th century. People who didn't know about the change and celebrated the New Year in late March or early April were called "April fools" and were playfully tricked by others. It's been a day of lighthearted pranks and jokes ever since. It is a day when people play funny tricks and jokes on each other,  or tell silly stories to make people laugh.

Use the April Fool's story planners and writing paper to have your students tell a story of a funny April Fool they remember, or have them imagine and create a funny story.
