One topic that always comes up with our teachers is about keeping those mini lessons really “mini”, and not taking away from the rounds of Daily 5. What resources do you use?

I have also struggled with keeping the lessons short. This past year I tried breaking the lesson down into 3 parts. I used the idea of “I do- you listen” (teacher model) for the first mini lesson, then after round 1 we gather back and it is time for “we do” (guided practice) then back out we go for round 2. Next we gather back and it is time for “I do independently” or (independent practice). It helped me last year.

I like your idea! I was fortunate to be at the Daily 5/CAFE workshop in Tacoma, and also heard the Sisters talk a bit about the “I do/we do/you do” format.

Good luck to you on the 2014-2015 school year.
