Have you ever read a book that you just couldn't put down? Maybe you have an author that you enjoy more than others. How many of you have a series that you eagerly anticipate the continuation of? Those who could relate to any or all of the above would be considered voracious readers. Readers who read often, and always come back for more, are voracious. Isn't this something we want for all students? As teachers, our goal is to create a classroom full of voracious readers. Voracious reading increases vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and accuracy.
This Parent Pipeline highlights using voracious reading as a strategy to increase fluency. After introducing this strategy to your students and reviewing the components of a "good fit" book, send home the Pipeline to continue the home and school partnership.
