The first priority in the classroom, even over learning, should be the teacher-student relationship. When students feel heard, respected, understood, and loved, they are able to also feel emotionally safe and secure, which then leads to the opportunity for academic achievement. Since we know that a positive relationship between a teacher and a student is one of the most important factors associated with effective instruction and student success, we need to begin building these relationships day one.

At the beginning of the year many teachers like to use an All About Me form to get to know their students better. Having students fill this out and color or decorate with pictures is a way for them to show who they are, while giving us a way to get to know them better. It also helps them get to know each other!

You may wish to use the one below or create on on your own! And . . . don't forget to fill one out yourself! Your students want to know about you just as much as you want to know about them!
