Three things in human life are important; the first is to be kind, the second is to be kind, the third is to be kind.
—Mother Teresa
Of all the lessons we learn in life, being kind may be the most important. We often remind our children to be nice when they are interacting with siblings, friends, or classmates. What we are really asking is that they be kind.
Have you ever thought about the differences between those two little words? When I checked the dictionary, I found that nice means "pleasant, agreeable, and enjoyable." Kind means "understanding, considerate, helpful, generous, and forgiving."
Wouldn't you agree that kind is the word and action that better represents what we want in our lives?
As adults, we need to constantly model kindness so our children can see it, hear it, learn it, and replicate it. If everyone learned to be kind when they were children and practiced kindness throughout their lives, what a wonderful world it would be.
Above all else, be kind.
