We all have superpowers. Like comic book heroes, we all have the capacity to be superheroes. We all have abilities that give us a Superman cape.
What is your superpower? Which of your strengths gives you the cape of a hero?
- Are you the flexible one who rolls with the ups and downs of change?
- Are you the one people seek out for knowledge?
- Do you communicate happiness and cheerfulness to others?
- Is empathy for others your strength?
- Do you find balance between your home life and your work life?
- Are you the one with expertise that you share with others?
- Do others come to you because you are a good listener?
- Are you a lifelong learner?
I challenge each of you to acknowledge and own your personal cape-abilities. Each of you is a superhero worthy of donning a cape. Each of you has strengths and skills that set you apart from others.
Give some thought to your super cape-abilities and share them with others. Recognize the cape-abilities in your coworkers as well as your students. You may want to host a superhero day at your school, when every teacher comes with their own superhero T-shirt and acknowledges their individual superhero cape-abilities.
Have a discussion with your students about cape-abilities and have them join in the fun of recognizing and sharing their own strengths.
Identify your own superpowers and wear your cape-abilities with pride.
