My daughter took the picture below after wondering why it suddenly got too quiet in the house. With two boys, ages 3 and 1½, her mom radar knows that quiet usually means silent destruction and no good. However, her young charges were deeply engrossed in books.

As a coach, my teachers have asked me to help with close reading. I can't wait to dig into Falling in Love with Close Reading: Lessons for Analyzing Texts—and Life by Christopher Lehman and Kate Roberts, which Amazon so kindly delivered yesterday.

My brother, who is not typically a voracious reader, is currently consuming nonfiction books that will help him refine his skills as a marriage and family counselor. He chuckled the other night, saying, "This is so unlike me. I just can't stop studying."

There is something tremendously powerful about good-fit books. No matter what our age, there are books out there just waiting to be matched with us—books that will improve our minds, enrich our spirits, and expand our hearts.

This week, we feature a series of articles that will help you impart the joy and importance of good-fit books to your students.

Happy reading!
