Happy New Year!
As part of a longstanding New Year's tradition, we reflect on the past year and set our intentions for self-improvement, resolving to live up to these thoughts and actions throughout the year. The United States government maintains a list of popular resolutions on their website, and even offers steps to help children reach their goals.
Even with support, I have never been completely successful in keeping my New Year's resolutions. Apparently, I am not alone.
This year is going to be different. My New Year’s resolutions are going to be written as a story to live by. I wrote my goals/beliefs/resolutions in the language of what I want to do each and every day as a teacher. I am choosing to declare them as the core or underpinnings of what I believe as a teacher and human by writing and posting them on my computer, by my bed, and on my mirror. I believe in them, I want to live by them, and I want people to count on me to stand for them. Here is my story for the New Year.
My Teacher Resolutions
Each Day,
I choose to bring my best self to school.
I choose to believe each student is capable and worthy.
I choose to see the best in each student.
I choose to be kind in my actions and words.
I choose to be grateful.
What can you be counted on for the New Year?
