These sixth grade students are meeting in small groups to discuss behaviors and expectations for themselves and each other when working with math. We listen in to a group of five students, Alex, Laura, Caleb, William and Haley. An interesting statement the group thinks is important is, "Don't say this is easy." Pam, their teacher is listening to other groups as they also brainstorm their expectations for each other. This lesson is a staple in Pam's math workshop set up. Once these behaviors are identified, they will be referred to throughout the year as they all hold each other accountable for respectful talk and actions.
