Peace and Quiet

We live in a world of noise and motion. It seems like everything around us makes sound. We have active lives. They may be filled with children, senior citizens, work, hobbies, sports, and chores. This external energy can be draining, and we may not even recognize it.

Sometimes the external stimulation becomes overwhelming and we recognize that we need some peace and quiet.

For many, this means shutting down the computer, the music, and the TV, and placing ourselves in an environment with less noise and activity.

For others, it means something different. They view peace and quiet as an internal concept. It's the process of finding emotional peace and quieting our brain, breathing, and thoughts. People who practice this internal process can be sitting in a room of chaos and still find peace and quiet within themselves.

What kind of peace and quiet does your body need? Do you need your external surroundings to be calm and quiet? Do you need to retreat to the woods or beach or a quiet bath?

Or are you able to calm yourself internally to find your own place of peace? Can you calm your mind and clear it of noise and clutter? Do you escape into meditation or yoga to find your quiet?

There is no right or wrong way of finding peace and quiet. What is most important is that we recognize that we need it for balance in our life. It takes practice to build it into our daily routine. Start and end each day in a quiet state of mind and your days will be filled with peace.
