Please and Thank You

We teach our children to say please and thank you from the time they begin to speak. The words are repeated over and over as we encourage children to use them with every request. We are proud when they finally begin to say these words without prompting.

Please and thank you are part of our regular vocabulary. Or are they?

I've been paying more attention lately, especially in the adult population. I hear thank you ssid in passing, but seldom with true heartfelt gratitude. As I listen, I seldom hear please in the workplace. It's become common to just make requests without including please.

What do you hear in the adult conversations around you? Are your family members, friends, and colleagues automatically offering these words to you? Do adults in your circle share these words with peers and co-workers?

When was the last time you sincerely said thank you to someone?

Help those around you feel your appreciation by sharing the words please and thank you. It will make your day as much as it makes theirs.
