Issue #360
An incredible numbers of tasks need to be checked off to wrap up the school year: administer end-of-year assessments, reinforce and teach the last grade-level standards, communicate summer goals to parents, and write report cards. It can feel overwhelming.
Take a moment to refocus and shift your thinking to the results—sending your students out the door with the skills and knowledge developed in your year of learning together.
Think about this: you have done your best to teach each child, starting from where they were and moving them forward. The skills and strategies they learned are part of their working memory. They are ready to take what they have learned to the next grade. Your students may not always remember that you are the one who taught them how to Flip the sound, or the importance of authors purpose, but they know it now because of you.
Focus on this goal and don’t let yourself get bogged down by the mundane chores and details. Celebrate the successes you and your students have achieved as you wrap up the final tasks of the year.
Celebrate!
Before you know it, you'll be focusing again on the bigger picture with a brand-new group of students.
