Amy Wilson from Sheridan Wyoming asked, "How many times should I observe a student doing a strategy before adding on a new one?"

We talked to Amy about Touch Points, which is our way to monitor progress. If a student shares how they applied a strategy, or if they apply it as we observe during small group instruction or a one-on-one conference, we indicate it on our conferring sheet with a check mark or standards based numbers (whichever is consistent with our district's recording style). Once the student has shown they are utilizing the strategy independently (observed 4-5 times), we highlight the strategy on their personal CAFE menu. Amy gave us a great idea and that is to box the strategies that we are working on and highlight them when the student has demonstrated proficiency.

Thanks so much Amy. We love learning from and with you.
