When adults share picture books with children, they help to build their lifelong literacy and enjoyment of reading. No matter what the child's age, picture books help to increase vocabulary, provide a better understanding of concepts, develop writing skills, and create a lifelong love of learning (American Library Association, 2009).

An important accuracy strategy listed on the CAFE menu is: Use the picture... Do the words and pictures match? This strategy teaches children one approach to assist with decoding words and gaining meaning. After introducing this strategy, use the Parent Pipeline to help parents support their child at home.
