Within Our Reach

"Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach." ― Clarissa Pinkola Estés

When was the last time you were daunted by an enormous project, not knowing where to start or if you even wanted to start at all? I've had several occasions like this lately.

Spring brings sunshine and rain, and quickly the yard and garden are out of control. As much as I love spring and the rebirth of the trees, flowers, and lawn, it often seems overwhelming to get started putting it back in order. Whenever I get the feeling that the project is too big, I remember the quote above.

The same holds true for many worldly issues. We may not be able to fix the poverty in our world, but we can do something about the poverty in our neighborhoods, schools, or city. We personally may not be able to help every child in the world read, but we can teach the children around us and help them learn. It's overwhelming to think of fixing everything at once, but very manageable to start small, working on tasks within our reach.

Choose your tasks with confidence, and begin with the part of your world that is within your reach.
