I teach a third and fourth grade multiage class. My students are struggling with Author’s Purpose and I am considering adding “Decide on the Author’s Purpose” to my CAFE menu under comprehension. Is it okay to add my own strategies to the menu if I notice it’s something a majority of my students need extra help with?

I think what you are talking about is covered under the comprehension strategy of "Determine and analyze author’s purpose and support with text".
At this link, scroll down to see links to a few videos the Sisters made that may be of interest to you.

At the link below, there are several articles and suggestions about successfully working on author’s purpose: http://www.thedailycafe.com/strategies/comprehension/determine-and-analyze-authors-purpose-and-support-with-text
There’s even one called “Finding The Secret to Author’s Purpose”. Hope these ideas will help.

@srea Thank you so much! Apparently when you lesson plan at 9 PM on Sunday it makes it tricky to find obvious things on the CAFE Menu

Ha! We’ve all been there :). Sometimes it’s just nice to have someone help us find things.
