I have both a copy of DAILY 5 and CAFE but was wondering if the Sisters or any of you had any other great books to suggest? I know they have mentioned Debbie Miller but are there any others that you guys have found helpful?
This book came up with really good reviews on Amazon:
Comprehension Connections: Bridges to Strategic Reading
Looking through these reviews though, one teacher mentioned how her kids loved the “Garbage and Inferring” lesson.
My fear is that although these books may have good reviews, I do not want to stray from the simplicity/effective foundations of daily 5 cafe.
Thanks you so much for any feedback!
I like the books from Tanny McGregor. You mention Comprehension Connections and the other is Genre Connections. Great lessons that you can pick and choose activities from to use in your mini-lessons. They fit in well with CAFE Comprehension Strategies.
I don’t think you need to feel like to have to do the whole lesson at once.
I also like the books from Lucy Calkins. I really feel like what she discusses fits in with CAFE, as well.
I like the phonics lessons books by Pinnell & Fountas. You can get a grade specific one. They are well organized month by month and work very well with the CAFE board.
