Word Study—Group Study of Long e Patterns

We meet with small groups for a variety of reasons. This small group was formed to continue a word study of words with the long /e/ sound. By providing each child with a Word Study notebook, they are individually accountable to recreate the charts, hunt for and record new words, and use the words for quick reference during writer's workshop. So much of learning to spell comes from noticing patterns, rules, rule breakers, etc. These boys and girls are becoming spelling detectives, and joyously record and share with each other when they make new discoveries.
