Last week as I was listening to a student read our morning message, I noticed he completely changed the meaning of the message by placing punctuation in the wrong place. Part of the original message read, "Tanner will be our helper all day. Mrs. Crandall will teach us about nutrition." Instead the student said, "Tanner will be our helper. All day Mrs. Crandall will teach us about nutrition." Although I used that moment as a teaching moment, it reminded me of the importance to teach punctuation to enhance phrasing and prosody, not to mention to aid in comprehension!
