We had the joy of being on the coast of Maine last weekend teaching a Daily 5 and Café Class to a group of wonderful educators from across the nation. It never seems to fail that each time we work with teachers, we learn something new!
Once the workshops were over, we had the chance reflect on the wonderful weekend spent with educators and all the remarkable conversations and things we learned. If we were to sum up our biggest learning from that weekend it would have to have been the Power of a Teacher.
We were struck by the group of educators that drove for 10 hours to come to a workshop, the power of life-long learners.
Those colleagues and hundreds of others came together and we collectively shared laughter, stories and joy. Yes, this job is hard work, but it was a clear reminder of the power of having fun.
We met and worked with new educators in their first year of teaching, a 32 year old veteran and a 62 year old grandma. All of them were enthused, excited and focused on making a better place for kids. The power of drawing on our colleagues varied backgrounds and experience.
There were mother and daughter teaching teams who came together to not only spend quality time together, but to learn together as well, the power of sharing.
We chatted with teams of teachers from different grade levels who came to the workshop to make a difference school wide, the power of bonding.
In attendance were administrators who were learning with their teachers, the power of vision.
A group of people who left their newborns for the first time, gave up their weekends to gather and learn, traveled hours by planes, trains and automobiles, the power of tenacity.
We are constantly humbled and honored to be part of this fraternity call Teachers. Together we make a huge difference in the many lives of our students and their families. Thank you for sharing with us yet again, The Power of a Teacher.
