Hollie Gebhardt, a third-grade teacher, is able to take strategies and make them manageable and doable for students.
Here she reviews the strategy of asking questions with this small group of third graders. She reminds them that good readers constantly ask questions, which they make up themselves while reading. Many of these questions will be answered while reading, although some others will not.
The students create their own graphic organizer with these three titles: Before Reading, During Reading, and After Reading. Hollie models and explains that the children will be writing their own questions while they are reading their own books. She listens to each student and gives them the support and feedback they need to successfully use this strategy.
