Unspoken Words

Talk, talk, talk. It's all about words. Every day we talk. We engage in conversations with friends, family, peers, and strangers. We sometimes give presentations and participate in formal information sharing. No matter the topic, talk is all about the words. When we put our words together, what are we really trying to say? Are we sharing our thoughts or trying to change someone's mind? Are we teaching someone or are we just visiting?

Recently I gave a presentation to a large group. Rather than starting with the normal introduction, I asked the audience to listen to my words and told them, "Between my words I hope you hear passion, appreciation, respect, honor, and humility."

I want people to hear the emotions and the meaning in the spoken words. But more importantly, I want people to hear what is not being spoken.

What do people hear between your words? What message are you sending? Try focusing on the unspoken words. You will be amazed at how people will listen.
