There’s no separation between self and other, and everything is interconnected. Once you are aware of that you are no longer caught in the idea that you are a separate entity.
—Thich Nhat Hanh
When was the last time you thought you were alone in this world? When you felt that your thoughts and your issues were separate from those of everyone else? We feel that aloneness when we turn our thoughts only inward—when we forget that there is a reason for or connectedness to all that we are and all that we do.
It’s time to take a larger look at ourselves and our reason for being. We are all here, in the world and in the careers we choose, because we are connected to those around us and to the passion that drives us.
The interconnectedness is also evident in schools. As a teacher, you may feel alone and separate in the classroom full of students. You may forget that all that happens in your classroom is connected to the other teachers, classes, and students. The students who learn under your oversight will go on to other teachers who will have an influence on them as well.
The new teacher you bring under your wing and mentor throughout the year will learn and grow from you and your calm talents for dealing with students, parents, and administrators.
You see, you are not a separate entity, at home or at school. You and everything around you is interconnected, and that interconnectedness makes you and your passion part of a much larger momentum.
Search for the connection between yourself and those around you. We are not separate in this world, but connected in many dimensions. There’s a positive power and support in being connected.
We’re here to awaken from the illusion of separateness.
