Learn to relax. Your body is precious, as it houses your mind and spirit. Inner peace begins with a relaxed body.

—Norman Vincent Peale

Learn to relax. What an easy thing to say. Many people find it difficult to incorporate relaxation into their daily routine. Only when you are relaxed can your body and mind find the calm necessary to heal and rebuild. The rushed cycle of our daily lives creates tension that is very wearing on our bodies. For example, tension makes us cranky and more susceptible to illness.

How can we break this cycle? How do we totally relax our body so we can rebuild and find peace? The solution can be as simple as interrupting the hurry and worry in our lives.

Consider your daily routine. Is there calm in your routine, or just hurry and worry? Stop for a moment or two and take a few deep breaths. Can you feel the tension release as you exhale? When you notice your shoulders getting tight and inching their way toward your ears, it’s time to relax. Roll your shoulders as you breathe deeply. Recognize the tension in your body and release it. Don’t wait for it to build up and cause health problems. At night, help your body and mind relax. Try to get into a routine of spending some quiet time before bed. Turn off your electronic devices one hour before you go to sleep. Read a book, soak in a warm tub, or meditate. If you calm your mind, your body will find calm as well.

You have control over your daily routine, so build in some relaxation. It will be good for your health and well-being.
