Carefree Summer Days

Take me back to those carefree summer days.

Close your eyes and imagine you are eight or nine years old. School is out for the summer, it’s a warm afternoon, and you have two hours to play before dinner. No responsibilities or chores at the moment, no car payments, no jobs, no car pool, no errands. Only the freedom to play and do whatever makes you happy. What do you do?

Do you ride your bike or play some ball with friends? Do you color or read a book? Do you jump rope or put on your skates? Are you alone or with others? Are you inside or outside? Whatever you choose to do makes you beam with joy.

Stop to think a minute. Do you remember those happy feelings? Do you remember the fun you had on carefree summer days? Now imagine that same level of happiness right now. What are you doing to give yourself that same feeling of pure joy?

Just going through this visualization exercise can lower your stress and bring a sense of calm to your mind and body. Some believe that the activities you chose when you were young will still bring you calm happiness today. Thus, the rise in adult coloring. Do you still enjoy the activities of your youth? Do these activities bring with them a sense of joy and happiness?

You can visualize these happy days anytime you choose. Take a few moments to close your eyes, take a deep breath, and let your mind remember those joyful summer days of your youth. You will be amazed by how calm it can make you feel to be taken back to those carefree summer days.
