In the Oxford Dictionary, joy is defined as “a feeling of great pleasure and happiness.” Today think about bringing joy to those around you, but keep in mind that it is hard to give away what you don’t possess yourself.
On a recent trip to the South we toured the Rosalie Mansion and Gardens in Natchez, Mississippi, a beautiful old home with a rich history. On our tour we had a guide by the name of Becky. Becky was a wonderful storyteller with a southern charm that was infectious. You could tell she loved what she was doing, and she drew us in with her charm and witty personality. She exuded joy.
So how can we bring joy to others like Becky did? Using Becky as an example, here is what I concluded:
- Love what you’re doing.
- Be knowledgeable about your subject matter.
- Be confident in who you are, what you do, and why you do it.
- Don’t overdo it. Let the real you shine through naturally.
- Have fun.
Bring joy by being joyful.
Have a great school year!
