Have you been busy lately? Have you been super busy? Do you think you may be even busier than any of your friends?
I read an article in which the author said that some of us view busyness as a badge of honor and that complaining about it is really boasting in disguise. I will admit there have been times I have tried to one-up a person when they were lamenting their busyness.
We are busy because of the choices we make. Think about the activities you do with your family, the time you spend working with students at school, the phone calls you make to parents after school, the extra errands you run for lessons you are teaching or taking, the exercise you do to stay healthy . . . All of those activities take time, and we are “busy” doing them all.
Maybe we need to change the word busy to full. Perhaps it is actually a privilege to be able to fill our days with the activities we deem most important.
That simple switch helps us reframe a negative connotation so that it is a positive one. Then we're able to acknowledge how lucky we are to have a life made of days filled with what we choose to do. Let’s celebrate and cherish the fullness of our days.
