We are struggling in our Fifth grade classes of how we incorporate Literature circles in our classes? One out of three of us have been to the daily 5 and cafe conference and the other two are going this spring. Should we have literature circles and novel studies still going on in our classroom or do we just do their own IPICK books with literature circles and if this is the Daily Five belief how do we incorporate all of this into our classrooms as whole groups discussions?
I think this is a great question for you to take with you to the Conference this spring, and get some advise from the experts!! One great piece of the conference time is the time allowed to talk with teachers from other schools, perhaps with similar problems. Also, The Sisters allow time for Q & A, so if you turn in your specific question, you’ll hear their advice.
I am looking for an answer to this too! Any new feedback or suggestions on incorporating literature circles?
The quote below is from the article at this link about responding to literature. https://www.thedailycafe.com/articles/responding-to-literature
“Sometimes we replace our last focus lesson with a chance to respond to the day’s reading. This may involve turning and talking with a partner, sharing and retelling what they read, or individual or group shares in front of the class.”
Seems to me that literature circles could be worked into that last focus lesson, and using the round time following to continue discussions.
