I live in one of the hard hit areas in a Texas. We started school August 2 and began Daily 5 on our first day. School will not resume until 9/11. Should I start all over? Many students have suffered loss of everything and probably will be sad and upset when we begin classes again. What say you? I have watched the Quick Start webinar and am considering starting over using those steps. Any advice?
All our thoughts are with you. I know you will take the time to let your students talk as they need to share their experiences, but I can imagine that they are also ready for some stability and order to their little lives.
I think Daily 5 will give them that–a bit of control over one part of their lives. I would start over–just like many of them are starting over.
I’m in San Antonio, and several teachers at my school are working to “adopt a classroom” on their own. If you are in need of this kind of support, email me, and I’ll see what I can do to make a connection with you and a classroom here.
Truly, wishing you strength and courage.
Thank you the offer. My little school did very well. I will check with my teacher friends in other schools today. I grew up in one of the hardest hit towns: Lumberton. I cannot get in or out. I am so thankful my sister and her adult children live with my elderly parents. I know the schools there are a mess.
Hi, I don’t have any Daily 5 advice, but your thoughts make sense to me. Just want to wish you the best, and ask if you know of specific ways that we can help teachers/classrooms/schools who are going through this tough time.
