Hello! I am trying the integrated approach to Daily 5 and CAFE next week. When do you recommend launching the Math Daily 3? Thanks!
Mandy
I just attended the Sisters conference in San Antonio, and there was some good discussion about Math Daily 3. Gail and Joan recommended waiting on introducing Math Daily 3 for a while, until after you have introduced Daily 5 and students have that structure in place. Be watching the website for the posting of Launching Math by Myself lessons that will soon be posted. S Rea
That makes sense. Thanks!
Thank you, I had the same question and your answer helps. I will be watching the website for that posting.
Joan here, we actually begin day one of school teaching a couple of math games to post on the math wall under Math by Myself. We also pre-teach how to get the math materials, set them up and clean them up. This these are the foundation lessons that must be taught before we launch. Once we have practiced the games, we launch Math Daily 3 with Math by Myself. It launches exactly like Read to Self with the 10 Steps to Independence, but instead of reading, they play one of the math games. This launch usually occurs on the third day of school.
Our Math Launching Briefs begin this Friday in our Tip of the Week with math by Myself!

I actually did what Joan recommended, and it worked really well for my class. I introduced a few games the first week of school, which the kids really enjoyed. The second week of school is when I introduced Math Daily 3, and The Daily 5. I thought it be confusing for my students to separate the two, since they didn’t have either in first grade or kindergarten, but they’re doing great!
