We are beginning to implement the Daily 5 at our school but are somewhat confused about Foundation lessons vs Launching. Do we introduce all of the foundation lessons (Appendices B-F) first and then begin the Launching lessons?
I did the foundation lessons the first week of school. For example, we had to talk about I PICK before they could fill their book bins for read to self, so teaching that first was just natural. After I taught that lesson, their book bins were filled, and I could launch Read to Self. The foundation lessons are the things they had to know before we could even get started. The launching lessons are what I taught when teaching them how to do Read to Self.
