Hi everyone out there in Daily CAFE land.
My schedule this year gives me a bare 45 minutes for English Language Arts.
I'm also required to do some form of Daily Language Practice, which takes 10-15 minutes every day. (I wish it was less).
That leaves me 30 minutes, if I'm lucky for Reading, Writing, and Word Work, and mini-lessons.
Looking for ideas!
In the past we have always had at least an hour for English Language Arts, but now I've been told that I will not be getting any more for the whole year, and that I have to integrate our thematic units as well.
I teach 4th grade, and I've got students reading anywhere from a Level F (low Gr 1) through to Level Q/R (Raz-Kids - Gr 3 level).
I'm desperate to accelerate these students, by getting them doing lots of reading, but I'm struggling to find the time.
Thanks in anticipation.
Karen
